It's Windows 7 all the way!

Tonight saw the final death of the venerable Windows XP on my PC. It's been a long time a-coming, but Windows 7 has proven to be a rock solid and reliable replacement.

So when the final RTM version gets released on October 22nd, I'll be re-installing using it. I managed to get in on the Win7 pre-order deal which means I get Win7 Pro for £99, whereas now it will set you back about £180!

I think I'll try using the 64 bit version (the Pro version comes with both 32 and 64-bit versions), as I upgraded tonight to 4Gb of ram from my old 2Gb. Even with only 3.25Gb addressable under a 32-bit OS, there's a fair difference in speed and responsiveness. Despite the fact that Win7 RC is pretty nippy as is, and a damn sight better than Vista (which also got wiped tonight), service packs included.

I may even chuck the old 2Gb in there as well, and give myself 6Gb of ram, which quite frankly is overkill. But may as well, eh?

  1. I’ve not had too many issues with Vista but all the same it still feels wrong, if you know what I mean. XP was always very good and from what I’m hearing Windows 7 ticks all the right boxes. Looking forward to getting it and installing it.

  2. 7 is a step above Vista in usability tbh.

Vista, even now is still buggy for me with display drivers, and 7 straight off from the first released beta worked perfectly.

Glad I got it for £99 though, as £180 is a bit much to splurge on an OS these days.
